Richard "Sparky" Moore was born in Philadelphia in 1925. After serving in the navy in WW II, he studied art at the University of New Mexico. He began his career as a commercial artist illustrating such well-known characters as Rin Tin Tin, Zorro and Tarzan. Starting in the 1970's, Sparky worked for Disney, inking such favorites as Winnie the Pooh and the Disney Classics comic strip. Sparky also had the opportunity to be one of the court sketch artists for the infamous Charles Manson trial. His art career has spanned over 50 years.

A bit of the Ol' West has always run through Sparky's blood. Always a great storyteller, Sparks lets his illustrations "tell the tale". His unique style highlights the ruggedness of western life. The simplicity of his subjects is balanced by the intricate features in his work. His illustrations are infused with detail and humor.
Although pen and ink is his favorite medium, Sparky also dabbles in watercolor, acrylic and oil. His western scene "cutouts" are always a favorite. He recently began painting ceramic tiles in western themes. His 7 foot long, 20 tile "cattle drive" was a big hit at the Paso Gathering. Sparky's talents also include carving and painting rocking horses.
Sparky lives on a ranch in Templeton, California. Until her death in 2005, Sparky and his wife Helen lived the "ranch life" for all of their 55 years of marriage. They had 5 children (including 2 sets of twins!) who came in mighty handy as ranch hands!!
